There is a new Jeopardy! champion after a librarian from Maryland fell to a Seattle software engineer in her second show.
Mikey McCullough, a metadata librarian and data curator at the National Agricultural Library in Beltsville landed in third place on Wednesday's show, one day after earning championship status with a $18,200 win.
McCullough ended the show on Wednesday, Nov. 20 with a $2,000 total, behind a writer from Los Angeles, who finished with $3,000 and new champion Mehal Shah's $9,799.
She had an outside shot going into the Final Jeopardy question, but lost most of the $7,600 she amassed in the second round after missing the last clue: "Ovid says he 'toppled, beating wild with naked arms the unsustaining air… shrieking for succour from his sire.'"
McCullough guessed "Prometheus."
The correct answer: "Who is Icarus."
None of the contestants got the answer correct, but Shah had built up a large enough lead to ensure his victory going into Thursday's show.
